Sites 4 Students

I really enjoyed these Sites 4 Students---they're great resources. And I especially liked WriteBoard and Zoho. They're extremely useful in a public library setting where word processing/spreadsheets, etc. are limited to just one terminal. In the past I've recommended writely.com to patrons but with the broader capabilities of these two, I'll be recommending these for sure.

Twitter...

I'm not sure what to say. I've explored Twitter and set up an account but I guess I really don't see any relevancy to my life. I may just be a little too private to be broadcasting my daily (or hourly) activities to the world (or even just to my friends) and am frankly not that curious about every detail of their lives. When it comes right down to it, I don't think I can see a situation where I would ever use Twitter. Hmm.

Facebook--I'm not a Luddite

Hmm. I'm not sure what I really think about Facebook. As with a lot of social networking tools, I see the pros and cons--and the biggest con, to me, has to do with people getting accustomed to having their "private" information on view for all to see. It's not that anything will necessarily be done with this information (besides, of course, what we've already seen with Facebook and tracking), at least on the face of it--but, it could lead to potential abuse down the line (at a point when most citizens may be so used to displaying personal details online that no thought of privacy infringement even enters their mind). It may just be a first step in this direction. Scary.

But, having said this, I am not unaware of the fact that I'm a bit guilty of this, too (with my blog info--books I'm reading, restaurants I like, etc.).
